bookshelves: classics, humorous, political-statements

Hilarious book. Along with Don Quixote, among the funniest works of literature.

Follow the main character as Voltaire absolutely destroys the Enlightenment conceit that the world is constantly improving, that time passage = advancing = progress = betterment. You can even see in the words how the separate ideas of "aging" and "improvement" get tied up together; well, after you read this book you won't forget how silly that fallacy is.
