The Starry Rift
Tiptree released two slim collections of linked short stories in the mid-80s: Tales of the Quintana Roo, and this one. While Quintana Roo is an evocative, imaginative delight, The Starry Rift is the absolute nadir of Tiptree's fiction; a trio of self-indulgent, mawkish, retrograde space operas, wholly lacking the power and intensity that even her weakest early work possessed, and with world-building that is completely unconvincing and very badly dated.
