did not like it
Read in January, 2008

I am trying really hard to like this book. The writing is very stilted and sometimes downright convoluted, making it less enjoyable than I thought it would be. And, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be reportage or memoir. It should be way more interesting than it is, and yet I keep going with it.

How's that for faint praise?

I give up....Life is too short to waste on crappy books.

Susan B. Stephanie,

Did you see Wordplay, a documentary on this subject featuring Will Shortz of NYT fame? It was pretty entertaining and might be a good companion for this book if you haven't seen it yet.

Susan

Stephanie I haven't seen it -- I haven't really been watching many movies despite our Netflix...

This book is tough going because I don't like the writing. Very long, convoluted, confusing sentences and it seems a bit pretentious some of the time. I'm going on, though, because it seems like a fun topic.

Susan B. Received my puzzles from the American Crossword Tournament in the mail this week. Look out!
