Yorick Brown, the sole male on Earth after a worldwide plague, only wants to be reunited with Beth, his true love. With the help of the mysterious Agent 355, Yorick escapes various factions that have forced him to spend years on the run. Whys and Wherefores (collecting issues #55 – 60) presents the culmination of Yorick’s quest. The story is simple enough that the relevant background is not necessarily needed, but there are definitely gaps that a new reader to the series will notice. A long epilogue sets up a possible sequel. Y: The Last Man has garnered much acclaim in the comic book world over the years for its creative look at society and gender, and is certainly well worth reading, but this volume is not the place to begin. The story contains graphic sex and violence.
