really liked it

I picked this up a couple of years ago when it first came out in paperback. I turned to the first page, read the title of the first chapter, and immediately decided to sit down and try it out. The chapter is titled "The Inadequate Lamp Shade"--possibly the best chapter title ever, and it had me hooked. This was my first Irving novel and I found it facsinating, if not a little steamier than I had expected (come to find out that's exactly what I should have expected from him, no?). I can't say if it is typical Irving, as a couple of his others are still on my to read list, but I would definitely read it again. If you don't intend to read this, I highly recommend just trying out the first chapter the next time you are at Barnes and Noble.
