it was amazing
bookshelves: fiction

This is a book that requires a commitment. The length alone is enough to make some think twice. Then after completing the first of the four sections, a certain perseverance is necessary to continue on. But one must. Pears has created a masterpiece that unfolds slowly and deviously, as the reader begins to sense that what seemed simple and almost boring at the start is rich, complex and very unpredictable. Having four narrators tell the same story is a masterful (and wickedly difficult, I imagine) scheme allows for the reader to see what was hidden from (or by) the earlier narrator. Fingerpost has one if the most satisfying payoffs I've ever experienced.
