I have done enough reenacting in pre-1840 worlds that this book intrigued me from the premise, alone. Bell did a fine job of keeping me engaged with the characters, and I like how she developed everyone, not just our protagonist. This would make a very interesting discussion book for some teens, especially kids who are into the romance of olden times (are there still kids like that out there?) One obvious topic that Bell didn't mention, though, is the mess and inconvenience of menstruating without the benefit of either plumbing or modern personal sanitary supplies (ahem). Trust me, inconvenient is the nicest word I can conjure. I enjoyed the book a lot, though. I was almost late to work today because I was reading!
