Started this last night. The disadvantage of reading this style and age level is that I teach all juniors and seniors. I will experiment in September and simply ask who has read it, show the review, and see if anyone picks it up. Never know 'til you ask. Finished this afternoon and was impressed by the knowledge of mythology modernized into the plot. I would recommend this to a student interested in that field, as well as an exciting plot. Because Riordan has written this book in a series, one can certainly look forward to continuing. If I taught freshmen rather than juniors and seniors, "The Lightening Thief" would be more age appropriate, but I will offer it to relunctant readers and possibly set a fire under them, or hit them with a bolt. Glad I read it.
