bookshelves: community, feelings, helping-one-another

This is a wonderful story of a little girl and her family who lost all their possessions in a fire. She, her mother, and her grandmother all save money in a jar for a nice, soft chair for the mother to sit in after work. I think many children can relate to this story as well as be able to sympathize with this family's situation. The class could donate to their own coin jar, and at the end of the school year give the money to someone in need in their community. I really like that the story mentioned all the people who helped this little girl's family by giving. This is a good lesson for any age student.
