really liked it
bookshelves: fiction, favorites

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pretentiousness was so overdone, it was almost funny, but I loved the sketches of human character. I will say that the end was a little trite (I don't think the author had to go there, and it made the novel more of a cookie-cutter dramatic classic), though I loved all references to the camellias. Makes me want to make a list of all the classic culture references and check them off as I read/watch them all.
