really liked it

I really enjoyed this book - very well written and although it's super long it is definitely a worthwhile read. It's a good detective/mystery story with an interesting surreal element involving a bottle of water that seems to have hallucinogenic powers. It's more surreal in the vein of Shutter Island rather than straight supernatural/fantasy. The book's setting in a remote, small town creates a wonderful tone for the eery and peculiar incidents that happen throughout the course of the novel. There are two stories intertwined in the novel; the one involving Eric/protagonist/filmmaker hired to investigate the origins of a mysterious bottle of water and it's owner, Campbell Bradford, an old man in his nineties, and the story of Campbell Bradford in his earlier years in West Baden, Illinois, an old mining town. Overall, it has a great group of characters and suspenseful plot that I felt very much drawn to and engaged in.
