The Souls of Black Folk

I started reading this book a long time ago, when the police shooting of a young black man seemed surprising, unique. I'm so glad I finally read Du Bois and touched his insight into what race relations were like in his lifetime. Some of the essays are flat-out gorgeous and he offered me a perspective I could never gain on my own. The news isn't much better now that I'm finally finishing the book, but the conversation is richer and I have a better idea of how very much I have left to learn.
