Pathologist Nora Gavin fled St. Paul when only one policeman, Frank, would believe her strong instinct that her brother-in-law Peter was responsible for the death of her beautiful sister Triona. In Ireland, she met Cormac, whom she loves, but she feels impelled to go back and prove, this time, that Peter is the murderer before he can remarry. She finds that Frank is not only in love with her, but struggling with demons from his own past. When Nora's young niece Elizabeth finds out that her mother was murdered (she was told that Triona died in an accident) she runs away from Peter and his new bride, seeking Nora in Ireland, where all the pieces finally come together in a shocking finale.
