it was amazing

This story is so beautifully constructed and told that I liked, understood, and felt happy/sorry for both Valerie and Tessa. Even Dr. Nick, who could be a villain, seems more like an enigma than a bad guy.

Is the plot groundbreaking? No. Are the basic tenets and events as old as time? Yes. But it's the humanity and believability that Ms. Giffin -- and Cynthia Nixon, who reads it -- brings to the tale that make it special.

To be honest, I was unhappy with the ending. But then, if I was either Valerie or Tessa -- and I don't kid myself that I could NEVER be in either position, as presented here -- I don't think I'd like the ending, either. Sometimes life is not very neat.
