This was an excellent what-if story about how something unexplained happens in a small rural town, the inhabitants are left changed, but without a rule book, so that they struggle to find new meaning to their lives. Ok, the author's science explanation for why these things happened are not the strongest part of the story. But the relationship between people who leave small towns and the people who stay, between aging parents that no longer understand their own bodies and their children was spot on.

I really enjoyed this story.
