Evocative story of a lonely eight year old girl who makes a mysterious friend whilst on a visit to her mother's family in Nigeria. Yoruba legend provide the resource for what is essentially a ghost story which also has the feel - tempo and pace - of a very English M.R. James tale.

I was quickly drawn into the story and would have given it an extra star, but for the fact that I thought the brilliant character of TillyTilly got lost in the final third of the book. But this amazing young author - sudying for her A-levels when she wrote this book - goes on my list as someone to keep an eye on.
