BRILLIANT!
BEAUTIFUL!

I keep wondering why there aren’t many books like this—where things you don’t usually notice or explain in depth are made into stories. Where a world is set in an unlikely place. Like in the sky, functioning like the sea.

How do you explain the sudden disappearance of herds of cattle? Unexplainable gap in the corn fields? Sudden lighting in the sky? Cloud formations?

UFO? Aliens? Nuh ah. Nope. Magonia

A place in the sky. Ships in the air. Pirates. Birds (um, human-birds?) A whole world perched on the clouds, above us! Those are things I wouldn’t let myself miss.

This book has one of the most brilliant and creative ideas, carved well. The writing is blunt and amusing and so cool. I loved how this book made me smile on usually depressing parts and how everything commented made sense, actual sense.

The main character, Aza (nice name!) has this usual temperance, bitter in life but what makes me like her is that she doesn’t act like usual teenagers: angry, always angry and depressingly pathetic. Yeah, at first I thought she’d act like one. I mean, who wouldn’t with her crappy, dying life? But I just loved that she didn’t. Her mind seemed stronger and she had ways to entertain the readers.
You see, the first was like this tragedy of dying, teenage girl, who definitely didn’t have friends except for a very loyal boy friend... and you know how that goes. Except that...
"You can’t say I said, but basically, there’s a feather in your left lung.”

Feather. That came. I was like a, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttt????

And then...
Bird in my lung? BIRD IN MY LUNG?

Another whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattt???!!! And Whyyyyyyy?????? And hahahahhahhahahha!!!! It was, obviously, hilarious and shocking. But that was where the story got interesting.

Anyway, all I’ll say is that Magonia is AWESOME!
“Even people who’ve never seen a miracle can believe I miracle, Aza. Even people who’ve never seen the light, people who’ve been kept in the dark, people who’ve gone snow-blind or sky-blind? Even those people can imagine fantastic things.”

(just thinking out loud^^)
