did not like it

In my mind, this novel should be reduced to a sweet short story about the elephant in a depression period circus and descriptions of that time period (that are more researched) etc. The main story line and having the vomitous abused damsel in distress keep going back for more be a romanticized character is just dumb. And the lame representations of senior dementia, veterinary medicine, schizophrenia and alcoholism are very poorly informed.
