really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, history, horror, mystery, steampunk

Oh: this book was adorable.

I finished it in on e sitting and smiled through most of it.

It's a steampunk-flavored horror detective novel (sort of) based on the idea that the supernatural community (ie ghosts and vampires and such) suffer from an over abundance of soul and that their natural counterpart would be a human born without one.

Slightly irritating romance angle thrown in there, maybe just to get it published (because for some reason a strong female lead can't exist in paranormal brain-candy reading unless there's making-out involved. Sheesh.) But I think the rest of the series will focus on the excellent world and interesting characters that the book introduces, rather than who is sticking what body part into whom due to the conclusion of this book wraping up thr "romance" angle firmly.

Ligh summer reading. Fun.
