This book was being passed around my house at Christmas, so I read through it. Although I think Colbert's stage persona wears thin during his TV show, I usually find one or two things to laugh at each evening. Or I did until the writers' strike. Unfortunately, the book is really a pointless exploitation of his persona, which really isn't complex enough to support 200+ pages of text, even with lots of white space.

There is, however, one hilarious page. It's the Colbert equivalent of Guido Sarducci's "Five Minute University." Colbert summarizes the content of a number of college courses in one line per course. All are very funny and many are probably very close to what students think or say about the courses. I will quote only two. Read page 126 for the rest.

C Lit 342: Literature of Pacific Islanders--Beware. There's a lot more literature by Pacific Islanders than you'd think.

H. Art 331: Native Art of the Pacific Northwest Coast--Ooh, look. Somebody drew a salmon!
