it was amazing

Yep, Nic, I loved this. :)

Writing about the teenage experience can go horribly wrong, but this graphic novel memoir gets it right - at least, I recognized a lot of my teenage self in this story. It's really beautifully told, both in words and in the super gorgeous art.

Writing about teenage love especially makes me want to back away slowly, but the love story here is cute, compelling, and believably flawed. Same thing with the protagonist's loss of religious faith, really - it could have been all, "I am a teenager now and will REBEL, GRRRAH!" But instead it portrays what us nerdy kids do when we're having an intellectual crisis, which is to sit around and think a whole lot.

I guess that is what I loved about this most - it has teenagers who THINK and don't just run around acting all hormonal and wronged.

Did you think the protagonist looked just a tiny bit like Young Snape?
