I used this with my fourth graders to send Flat Stanley around the world. We used e-mail, rather than snail mail. We had a waiting list for participants.

This book was always an easy way for students to ease into reading in our classroom.
It's been a several years since I used this book with my fourth graders. Scholastic had a sale last year; I purchased a class set of these thinking I would begin the year again with it and send out our Flat Stanleys. That didn't happen and I am happy it didn't.

I used this with a low reading group. While they have enjoyed the book, I cringe. Not certain what has changed, but this book I used to use year after year, is severely dated and loony. There's really no story, just individual chapters telling of Stanley's adventure. Blech!

The entire premise of the book is ridiculous. The resolution is even more preposterous. I think I have just outgrown this story.
