it was amazing

Katie Sullivan has penned an imaginative, entertaining debut novel. I loved the way she wove millennia of Irish history into the characters. Maureen and Sean are the perfect foils for Dubh, and their relationship is gripping and well-drawn. While this is a book focused on characters, Sullivan also does an impressive job of evoking atmosphere without slathering on description. I could feel the mist-laden air as I was reading. I even looked up a couple of times to make sure the mist wasn't sucking me in.

This book turns pages with a story that's engaging and easy to follow. I want to go back and read more Irish history now, just to meet her inspirations in real life. I'm looking forward to future installments. I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to Maureen, Sean and Dubh.

While I read an advance copy provided by the publisher, the opinions expressed here are my own.
