really liked it
bookshelves: young-adult, dystopia, science-fiction

I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi, but when one of my favorite authors gave it a great review I had to try it. I'm glad I did. This was a great book for teens or adults. The characters were believable and fleshed out enough for a good story but not so much that there isn't room for surprises in the future, the action kept things moving, the romance was just enough, and the ending was satisfying - everything a good book should be. The few things I wish had been done differently were all a matter of personal preference - more description, more complexity in the plot - that do not detract at all from the overall story and would have resulted in a longer book, which may not have been as well received by the target audience. I look forward to seeing what happens next!

p.s. For librarians reading this, this is definitely teen/YA (not tween) - warnings for violence, physical abuse, and mild language.
