Is it a dystopian future book or a philosophy book? Both? Okay.

Jonas lives in a society where all decisions are already made. There is no color, no pain, and no love. Then he is designated as the Receiver of Memory and learns that there used to be love and color and also lots of pain. He decides to run away from his society in order to bring back individual rights. Hmmm. Reads like Cold War propaganda? Maybe. Not quite as well-executed as 1984. But good. Will definitely discuss with the Young Person in my life who is reading it.
