If I could do half stars, I might make this a 3 1/2 star review rather than three stars. It's a great story and terrifically paced until about 3/4s of the way through -- where the reveal just seems like it comes too early and then the resolution is rather anti-climactic considering what is really at stake. You never really get a sense of the impending catastrophe on an emotional level.

That said, I was completely entertained for most of the story. Originally I thought this would be a bit cyperpunkish, but it is really a techno thriller and would have actually been at home on a mainstream fiction shelf. Most of the computing stuff is real world possible so it isn't really SF. I also really enjoyed the ARG (alternate reality game) stuff because I love the concept of ARGs, but not only am I lacking in time to get into them -- I'm lacking in all puzzle solving skill. But I can get my kicks reading about playing them and I'm fine with that.
