I didn't care for Gone Girl, but everyone RAVES about Gillian Flynn. And certainly my problem with Gone Girl wasn't the quality of the writing; rather the fact that I pretty much hated every character. Okay, so Gillian Flynn wrote other books..... Therefore, I decided to read Dark Places, and I'm glad I did. While it is indeed very dark, I could recognize, even sympathize with many of the characters. I liked how the story unfolded, piece by piece, on the day of the crime. I particularly liked Flynn's presentation of "facts" from different characters' points of view - how, based on one's perspective, conclusions could be interpreted (or misinterpreted)in ways far different from the original intent. If you are sensitive to language or some sexual situations, this may not be your book. Still, it was a gripping, worthwhile read.
