it was amazing

What an amazing book! The feeling I had finishing Winter's Bone is comparable to the way I felt after reading my first Cormac McCarthy novel, Child if God: a mixture of wonder and horror that comes with being so thoroughly transported to a world you want no part of. Just great.

Alan Heathcock I loved it, too, for all the same reasons. I'm hearing good things about the film, version, too.

Jim I liked the film, but I enjoyed the book more. There's no snow in the movie for one thing, and you get a sense that the filmmakers tried not to go overboard with sweeping shots of the Ozarks and seduce the viewer with a romanticized landscape. That was a good choice, I think, but in my imagination, the outdoor scenes were much more stark and blanketed by snow. The film reflects the reality: small weathered houses with large yards littered with cars and stuff that's been sitting outside for years.

Myfanwy This book knocked my socks off.
