it was amazing
bookshelves: 100-books, science-fiction, gothic

The writing in this is stunning. It rather puts one in one's place to realise it was written when Shelley was a teenager. There's a wonderful feeling of hopelessness throughout, and clever use of the very Gothic technique of stories within stories. I very much enjoyed reading it, but my dislike of Frankenstein himself and his endless wangsting means that it doesn't find a place among my absolute favourites. That said, it's a great book that well and truly deserves the praise it's received over the years.
