The main character of this story is called Jane. She is of a very young age and already had to struggle through a very tough life. Even if you, from an inexperienced reader's position, never had similar experiences in your life, you can nevertheless relate to the character from the very beginning of this book. None of the main characters had a very simple life but they're all handling everything so well under such circumstances which makes them very likable. Occasionally, you could even consider them as role models. Therefore, the author succeeds in creating realistic characters and even makes the readers curious towards the remaining books of the whole series.
