I remember liking it in high school so I picked it up for a re-read around the time the movie was coming out. I did not get very far. I think I liked it in high school because it was short and I was more interested in boys than books at that point in my life.
LOL! I keep thinking, it's been years since I've read this, so many other people think it's wonderful and deep, I really should give it another try. And then I think, Nah.
Why did I not get any notifications for the previous five comments?! Thank you for commenting, guys!@ Tadiana: I think "Nah" would be a pretty good way to summarise it.
@ Olivia: Sorry! I'm really not good with classics, but I wanted to give it a try anyway.
If you were to filter away whatever bitchy characterizations and prose form and whatnot that you disliked, did you like the overall representation of the jazz age, and the of-course-this-isn't-meant-to-last feelings it invokes?

bahahaha I just picked this up over the weekend, I've wanted to read it for ages -- it's one of the few "books you read in school" that I never read!

This may sound weird but I agree with you mostly, even though I did love the book. I think I did partially because the story had so many things that were horrible (also I too got annoyed by the 'old sport' thing, that was just unnecessary).
LOL, I agree. For some reason it left me sad as if they had wasted all their time partying but it lacks dept. Which in itself is telling.
I've never agreed more with a review
