My local librarian recommended ‘the shining’ to me, adding that i shouldn’t read it in the dark (not that i could!). It tells the story of Jack Torrance, an unemployed alcoholic writer who- with his wife and child- is forced to live in sinister isolated hotel for the winter as caretaker.
As with most Stephen King books, i’m not too sure what to make of this. It took a long time to get going and when it did it was only mildly interesting and not in the slightest sense creepy or scary. Thankfully however there are only really 3 main characters in this book, and unlike most SK books that include the whole town i didn’t have to run around doing a whos-who of towns folk.
Ultimately, i think this book is for SK fans, or lackluster horror fans.
