bookshelves: ya-mg, the-movie-was-better

One of those rare instances where the movie was vastly better than the book, which would make me feel bad for the author, except that the author actually wrote the screenplay too. So ya know, it all evens out. But seriously, I think the movie version of, "WHIP IT" nailed pretty much every element several times better than the book. Even though the movie is an almost word for word translation of the book, the characters are deeper, especially the supporting characters. The conflicts are more palpable. The story builds to a more satisfying climax. The dialogue was wittier. And, good god, the actual Roller Derby parts were far better explained and experienced on screen. Still, a fun, cute, girl power type of read nonetheless that would probably stand alone rather well were it not being compared to a better version in another medium.
