it was amazing
bookshelves: family, memoir, diversity-understanding

Black Jazz musician and former Washington Post reporter James McBride wrote this astonishingly wonderful memoir about his white mother. Marvelously written, this is a luminous window into a little black boy's somewhat confusing world. He asks his mom, well, if daddy is black and you are white... what color is God? One of my favorite books of all times.
