Though it was written before "Patriot Games," and takes place after, this one wasn't quite as interesting to me. Admittedly, I find stories which involve Russia (however, typically this only applies to "James Bond" films), and there were moments in this book that were top quality. I found the beginning to be interesting and the ending to be fascinating. It was all that lay in between that muddled my ability to follow the text. Though I'm not sure how else Clancy could have structured the prose, I could not quite follow the descriptions of where each submarine was during the final battle. That is likely due to my lacking of understanding maritime lingo, but I would assume this book wasn't written just for sailors. Either way, I was again surprised at how closely this book follow its filmic adaptation, and considering I finished it in less than a week, I can't complain too much about seemingly insignificant details.
