I did not finish this book, a good 100 pages left to finish it and I stopped caring for the characters any or all of them to be exact. I don't think its fair to write a review without fully reading the book, but I will do a brief sketch just to get it off my mind.
The settings of the tale reminds one of England of the old : Kings and their associated entourage, Powerful scheming women in the court and bed of his highness, Knights, Men both honorable and vile, assassins, sorcerer's and in short all the usual suspects for a fantasy novel. Most people would like it but when the tale has a fantasy setting personally i prefer characters to be a little more than the black & white of evil & good. Here the lead characters overflow with honor, courage and valor and while the villains lack honor they abound in courage and valor setting the stage for the inevitable clash of black and white ( not many greys !!!).The only character I liked was the dwarf Tyrion Lannister, sharp of tongue and shrewd of wit he wasn't much of a cliche. The author does create a wonderful world setting and it does serve its purpose well....
Dont mind me...am just rambling.. :)

Kedar, I am not entirely sure where the plot ended in the first book. To be frank in the onrush of plots and characters from other books, I think my knowledge of the series has gone rusty. But, recently I have started looking at going back to this series. Epic fantasy & its cobwebs have started to interest me again :). I read through your blog and find that you are a fierce enthusiast of the series, keep reading & do post your reviews !
