P.K and Critter, two strangers, set off cross country to climb Red Rocks near Las Vegas. P.K. is running from her parents' boarding school plan. Critter has just escaped a psych ward. Their serendipitous meeting at the climbing gym sets off an action-packed adventure mixing fear, danger, philosophy, love, and a passion for climbing.

I especially enjoyed what I viewed as Buddhist philosophy, which was unnamed, but was woven beautifully throughout the book. The question, "What would I do if I wasn't afraid?" is one worth pondering frequently.
