Not the best one of the series, but still another fantastic book. After the end o' the world type stuff from the book before, Spook's Nightmare had a tough act to follow and it feels a bit more like it's treading water until something really big happens in the next book (which I think will have LOTS of Grimmalkin YEAH!). Though there are still some great moments in this, in particular a horrific scene where 'witches' are tested by being put in a barrel with metal spikes pointing in and rolled down a hill. And if they survive they get fed to a horrible monster called a buggane. Ain't that lovely?

If you've read this series up to this point, you'll read this anyway because these books are just that good. And if you haven't started this series... PLEASE JUST DO IT! They are such wonderful, gruesome books set in such a refreshingly simple yet rich fantasy world. They are so compelling and I love their episodic format - no huge cliffhangers at the end of each one, which is kind of nice.
