I read this play out of a random anthology, but I was pretty impressed by its neat twist on the original Madame Butterfly. It also cleared up a major confusion that I had as a young person. You see, at some point in my young teenage years, I bought a Madame Butterfly poster without actually knowing anything about the opera itself. Some adult in my family commented, "But doesn't it end and she's a guy?" I had totally forgotten that comment until I read the synopsis preceding M. Butterfly in the anthology.
