it was ok

Tighter editing would have helped this book, in my opinion. There were sections that added nothing to the plot or character development (in fact, the character Mary even says that the section involving the visit to Palestine and Jerusalem had nothing to do with what unfolded).
Also, if you are a "purist" with regard to the character of Sherlock Holmes, you might not enjoy the way he is presented.
I read this for a book club and will be interested in hearing what the other members have to say. I did enjoy the mystery, but was unable to lose myself in the book.
