A lot of reviews I've read have described this book as Harry Potter for adults, which I think is a little ridiculous as the only real thing it has in common with that series is the school for magic. The 2 are so different it is pointless to compare. It does acknowledge Harry Potter as well as some others, which I found amusing (in a good way). I really liked how it was about a teenager living in New York and about finding out the things you read about as a child might really happen. I mean, who hasn't read a book as a child and hoped that the magical things in it really exist. Not that this book was all dreams come true- it was more like what happens after you get everything you've wanted, and how your life is still just your life even then. Problems and all, do with it what you will. I approved!
