This is a story about the internet developing a sentient consciousness. You'll probably know whether this is a book for you after reading that sentence. There were some aspects of Wake that I quite liked - Caitlin, the blind teenager, for example, both as a character and the descriptions of her blindness.

However, this is a really heavy-handed story, where the ideas are foremost, and plot and characterisation are secondary considerations. There's pages and pages of explanatory exposition, which was a bit much, and painfully awkward Livejournal entries. Eh. Also, I get the feeling that the sentient-Internet is going to be a bit annoying in future books. Damn super-intelligent technological personas.
