it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, historical

Haven't read anything by this author that deserved less than 4, and this one is about mid-level for him, perhaps not quite 5 full stars, but very close if not. One of the best starts to a book that I've read in a very long time - almost instant understanding and empathy for the main character and a driving interest in the world he lives in. Complex, multi-layered plot and characters. My only complaint would be that there were a few plot streams that kind of fizzled out and a few characters who were dropped or lost without being adequately explored- at least as adequately as I would have wanted. Still, it's hard to whine too much about an author who creates so many really compelling characters that they can't all be followed. An excellent book.

Jason Paulios I've heard good things about him, like what ROC has been doing with his cover art for the last few.
