Tony Judt writes eloquently about the benefits of social democracy. No not socialism, but a government structure that sees a place for public goods like education, health care and community relations rather than private greed of our consumption culture. Judt is one of the most persuasive progressive writers. It's shame his health is in decline. This book is one to keep and re-read in 10 years to see just how much he gets right.
