This was a lovely, bittersweet story. Although this book is profoundly emotional and meaningful, I felt all elements of the story could have been expanded upon: it was rather short for such intense topics as love, passion, betrayal, and the aftermath of WWII. Personally I was frustrated with Michael's selfishness, but I was intrigued by the descriptions of German generational temperaments and perspectives after WWII. But overall it's a thought-provoking and beautifully written read.
