I would like to hang out with Carol Leonard; she seems fun. But if you read her first memoir, don't expect the same deep, introspective writing that characterized that beautiful saga of her life as a midwife. This is mostly loose, fun anecdotes with some good descriptive passages here and there. At first, the slimness of this book is disappointing, but then you get into this bawdy, self-deprecating yet also self-celebrating woman's experience in beauty school.
