This was an entertaining story with a lot of moral and social lessons taught via a young Indian boy and a Bengal Tiger aboard a lifeboat. The story is young adult fantasy and the lessons are simplistic, but the writing is good and I was engaged throughout. I think the alternative point of view - the differing tale of events - at the end of the novel could've been skipped. That's the sort of symbolism that readers need to piece out for themselves through thought and discussion. I think it detracted from the story and replaced the fine edge of art with the blunt cudgel of instruction. Were it not for the ending, I would've gladly given this 4 stars despite its repeated moralisms.
