Patricia I read this book with great interest. The parenting these children received was deplorable....But the kids made their own lives by combining their resources to survive and thrive which I found to be admirable

Kathie This was my second reading of this book--had to brush up for my book club. For the last year and a half, I've been trying to come up with an adjective to describe the parenting in the Walls family. Irresponsible doesn't begin to hit it, nor does clueless. But yet, somehow the resourcefulness of the kids saw them through. 3/4 of the kids, anyway. Not everyone would come out intact after such an upbringing. My big question is: how did two people such as Rex and Rose Mary EVER find each other??

I guess I need to read Half Broke Horses and see if that's explained.
