Amelia Peabody and her archaeologist-husband Emerson are in Palestine, at the behest of the British government, to try to prevent a political and archaeological imbroglio. Their son Ramses, working at another dig, inadvertently comes into possession of a crucial bit of information--but he doesn't know what it is, and as he tries to escape from Turkish soldiers and a mysterious woman, he certainly has no time to think clearly about his discovery. This novel is set in 1910.
