Jane Buikstra is a fascinating speaker, as I can bear witness from personal experience. You couldn't prove it by her writing, though, at least based on this. I slogged my way about halfway through, and then gave up.

There was one part I DID like, however. At some point in the book Buikstra comments that Lewis and Clark didn't mention tuberculosis in the St Louis area near the start of their journey: 'But then, they also didn't mention Kahokia, and that's kinda hard to miss'.

This is the style of the lecturer, and I'd've appreciated a bit more of it.
